I started a new book today on the topic of digital marketing.
The first chapter (only 17 pages) described how you can build a personal brand online and what the core components of becoming a "rainmaker" online consist of. Traditionally a "rainmaker" is someone who has been able to bring in lots of business consistently based on their ability to sell. So how do you become a digital rainmaker? You develop your personal brand online by offering value and demonstrating your abilities. Figuring out a creative way to offer value and demonstrate your abilities, that doesn't feel like marketing is a key element to success. The book uses the example of a TV show about a Home Improvement Specialists. People watch the show to see all the homes that are renovated but simultaneously they see the characters of the show demonstrate their knowledge in the home renovation space and watch as they deliver value to the customer and to you as the viewer. Shows like these help the featured professionals gain more clients, and the new clients never feel like they had been marketed to. As many of you know, 2018 will be the year I focus on building a personal brand. As I continue to grow online and learn what developing a personal brand actually means, I will keep you informed. Hopefully documenting my journey is entertaining enough but I will be thinking about how I can develop content that is entertaining, provides value and demonstrates my abilities.
